SUMMARY:Resident Meeting 12 February 2025
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Minutes\nAttended by: \nAttended by: \n\n\n\nRobert Wase – Hackney Housing Officer\nCllr Clare Potter – Hackney  Brownswood Ward Councillor\nNnem Nwosu – Hackney Resident Participation Officer\n\n\nMolly – Hackney Showroom\n12 residents from various blocks (names removed for web version)\n \n\n\n\n  \nPrior to the official meeting the Housing Officer for Kings Crescent Robert Wase was available from 6-7pm in Hackney Showroom for 1:1 conversations with residents regarding housing concerns. Minutes were not taken for this section but a summary was given by Cllr Potter at the start of the meeting. The summary prompted further questions and conversations that are documented below. \n  \n\n\n\n \n  \nAgenda Item \n  \n \n  \nDiscussion\n  \nActions\n\n\n1\nHousing issues \n \nCllr Clare Potter gave a summary of the housing conversation prior to the meeting\n \n\n\n \n  \n  \n  \n1a. Lifts\nOngoing resident concerns about the number of lift outages and incidents in various blocks (mainly in newer blocks) and potential impact on increasing service charges. \n  \nCan send individual concerns to Cllr Potter in addition to reporting to repairs team. Clare.Potter@hackney.gov.uk \n  \nSome discussion around the overheating issue that was identified. Cllr Potter believes this was addressed by Hackney but residents stated the lifts improved for a while but now breaking again \n  \nResidents questioning value for money regarding lifts and service charges overall \n  \nStruggling to find commitment from individuals /departments within Hackney to deal with this ongoing issue \n  \nResponse from Higgins: ‘it’s Hackney’s problem’ \n  \n  \nJWM – are we beyond the defect period yet? Council has been maintaining lifts for 5 years\, is default period 10 years? \nSept 2017 moved in\, official handover 2018\, lifts built before that though. \n  \nQuestions from Residents: \n  \n–            Are the lift breakdowns definitely being added onto service charges \n–            Why is emergency button not working? \n–            Who takes responsibility to check repairs have actually been repaired properly? (Sometimes things not fixed when repairs say they are or they break again soon after the fix). \n  \nResidents in newer blocks are updating a spreadsheet of the lift issues. Permission to share with Cllr Potter? Is it up to date? \n  \nEmergency button is an ongoing issue\, have been chasing but no response yet \n  \nCllr Potter is looking for significant issues across all lifts. Residents present from Kimpton\, Sandon\, Chipping confirmed ongoing lift issues \n  \nHow do residents feed into the new contract? \nRobert said there is a new temp company starting \nTransparency around the selection and if doing a good job \n  \n \nCllr Potter is fact finding and to chase repairs report from Hackney regarding numbers of lift repairs \n  \n  \n  \n  \nRemi to get permission and share (updated) spreadsheet of lift issues with Cllr Potter \n  \nRemi to contact Cindy lift manager with questions and spreadsheet (if permission given to share) \n \n\n\n \n  \n1b. Complaints procedures\nExpiry of guarantees on building? How can it be raised \n  \nHave been separate complaints to flag the issues \nShould costs be covered by Hackney if they have taken responsibility for he issue. Hackney should have been aware of all contractors and sub contractors. \n  \nStage 1 complaints\, keep going through the steps of complaints procedure to ombudsman. Have to go through all of the stages first though before ombudsmen \n  \nIf council gets enough individual complaints will have to take notice \nHas been hundreds of complaints already\nResidents to ensure they are taking concerns through complaints procedure stages if not addressed by Hackney\n\n\n \n  \n1c. Safety concerns\nDon’t feel safe accessing the lift – that not going to get stuck and emergency button \nNeed to feel safe \n  \nNeed meeting with specific Hackney people to deal with the issues \n  \nNeed better communication. Likely a wider issue across Hackney/country\nCould Cindy meet us online? \n  \n \n\n\n \n1d. Cleaning\nNot sure if actually clean\, sweep carpet once a week (Chipping) \nBits not picked up\, perhaps vacuum not working\, surfaces not wiped. Infrastructure is degrading\, needs to be well maintained \nAlso issues on Weston – frequently filthy (2 guys responsible for all older blocks) – balconies once a week\, communal areas daily \nChutes blocked and drawers broken – Theobald (cleaners just put it back instead of getting it fixed – dangerous). Also blocked in Bramfield. \n  \ncleaner.estates@hackney.gov.uk address given to residents – advised to message directly with concerns \n  \nAudit needed on cleaning front. Possible to survey residents? \n  \nNeed more transparency with service charges \n  \n \n  \n  \nResidents must email directly with cleaning concerns \ncleaner.estates@hackney.gov.uk \n  \n  \nRemi to discuss cleaning concerns with head of cleaning\n\n\n2\nAGM minutes approved\nKathy & Remi approved\, no objections raised\n \n\n\n3\nConstitution \nUpdated\nApproved by all present and signed off at the meeting with Nnem Nwosu (Hackney Resident Participation) present \nDocuments can be seen HERE\n \n\n\n4\nHackney Showroom update\nMolly gave an update:\n \n\n\n \n \nStreet Party 12 July – plan is Similar to last year but open to suggestions. \n  \nIdeas and feedback from residents on this: \n·        Show was loud – particularly children with neurodiversity felt overwhelmed \n·        Need more diversity in the music to reflect the diverse community \n·        Turkish\, salsa etc\, more international \n·        Could shorten the length of the music bit \n·        More DJs for less time each and careful with volume/base levels \n·        How to get people involved? \n·        Survey with rough plan and open for suggestions? \n·        Dog show again? \n·        Local celebrity to judge competition?? \n  \nWinter market again 29 November \n  \nDiscussion around plans for youth summer project and if we are getting lottery finding again.
